*Our New Pregnancy Photo Shoot, Is All About The Glamour*

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Hi there!

Below is a picture from my very first mother-to-be photo shoot, since moving to NYC, and my client wanted something not only different, but truly glamourous, as she stated herself before we started, “I want Christina Aguilera-esque” pictures.

I have to say that we had lot of fun working together and I am excited about the results. We captured her glamourous pregnancy, and made a new friend at the same time.

If you would like to see more pictures from this photo shoot on our website. Just click on the picture.

My New Portfolio…

Pregnancy and Baby Photographer in New-York

Pregnancy and Baby Photographer in New-York

Although I wanted to use this picture as the cover of my new portfolio that I am publishing now, I was unable, because of issues which occurred while shipping my personal effects to the States. Many of my prized photography equipment was lost or destroyed (some still not accounted for) by UPS’ subpar, and unprofessional services. Also, credit card’s billing address were not matching so unable to order what i need or to set up my fedex account. So hopefully everything will be resolved and this picture will make it into the portfolio maybe by February??  That’s a long time to wait, but I like to do things the best way or I’d rather not do them at all. We are in a world where attention to detail matters more than ever before, don’t we?

While I was living in Europe I did things in a much simpler way, but I didn’t have to compete with lot of great photographers in my field, I was nearly the only one in my logistical area, that was shooting only in the genre of pregnancy and baby pictures.

But,New York City is a magical place full of images and has great photography schools. This means that in NYC we have the largest concentration of professional photographers on earth. So, the question is, how do I stand out amongst the others? Dispatching business cards at the grocery store or at the corner of the street, is no longer enough to compete in such a competitive market.

When deciding to relocate to a city with heavy competition, such as New York, it is better to brush up on your marketing skill set. Don’t have any past experience? Then, I’d suggest that you consider going to a marketing class or find the right people to help you. I guess I am in the middle of that transition right now. From my point of view, at least right now, it seems a bit tough to break into this saturated market. But, then I remember the good points;  New york is full of photographers, that is true, but, New York City is also full of tasteful clients whom expect nothing but the highest quality. The key is letting people know that you, indeed, exist, and are a true professional at what you do. A sentence I like to quote in french is ” Pas de savoir faire sans faire savoir ”. I don’t really know the right way to translate it into English yet, so I ll come back to this one to translate  later ;)

With this blog, I want to explain to you my new chosen path, my new chosen City, what I am currently going through personally and professionally and how I am evolving in the most exciting City in the world. I will share with you my new images and feelings about this wonderful journey, as they transpire.

Have fun,

Harry Fayt is back

It’s  been a few months now, since I “lost” my blog because of a hacker. But now I am back in action, and I hope to keep this one protected from future problems, the best I can.

My Blog aims to let other Europeans know about me, and my path starting my new venture while navigating through the Big Apple (NYC) but, I want this blog also to introduce my work to the American public.

For those of you who do not know me, I am a succesful familly photograher in Belgium,  and after taking a few trips in NYC during 2007 and 2008 I fell in love with this City, and its incredible artistic aura, and decided to move here.  Everything here inspires me; from the great storefront window displays on 5th Avenue, the foods, the people, places and things that make NYC so authentic and so wonderful.

I have set up my studio in the South Street Seaport area, which, actually, is the oldest part of the city. My building is located directly across the street from the oldest bar in New York City, called “The Bridge” which has been open since 1707. Literally, my studio is located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, on Water Street, between Dover and Peck Slip Streets.

This area is known to be one of more quiet and laid-back areas of the City, but is still in close proximity to everything!
